(UPDATED with ceremonial video, July 7th)
During the ceremony, Big Daddy Kane will get his rap moniker engraved on the esteemed path, which stretches from Flatbush to Washington Avenue.
The Bed-Stuy born emcee is heralded as one of the premier lyricists of his era, which is commonly referred to as the “golden era” of hip-hop. His 1988 solo debut, Long Live The Kane, just celebrated it's 30th anniversary a few days ago, and it's one of the most respected albums of the era due to Kane's lyrics and delivery. He continues to perform to this day and has become a veteran entertainer incorporating traditional crowd participation and dance moves into his routines.
During the 80s he was part of one of the most renowned hip-hop collectives, the Juice Crew, which featured other legends such as Roxanne Shante, MC Shan, Biz Markie, Kool G Rap, Masta Ace and mastermind producer Marley Marl. So it's safe to that the Big Daddy Kane's stamp on the Brooklyn Botanic’s Celebrity Path is well deserved!
